Robert "Bob" Lee Bodart, 87, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Throughout his life, Bob traveled extensively making friends, and building lasting relationships. Those that came to know this wonderful man enjoyed his caring personality and lighthearted, jovial wit. Bob was born June 16, 1936, in Westville, IL, the son of Ruth and Victor Bodart. His parents preceded him in death. He graduated from Westville High School, where he excelled not only in the classroom, but also in track and field where he held several records. He then spent four years in the United States Air Force, as an airman 1st Class. He attended and graduated from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL, where he received a bachelor's degree in business and finance. One of his favorite pastimes while in college was sharing coffee with professors in their homes after Sunday night suppers, where they enjoyed debating with each other and challenging the status quo. He went on to complete the Executive Corporate Financial Management course at Harvard University. This experience gave him the opportunity to spend time with his Uncle Jack who had been a professor at both Harvard and Columbia. Ultimately, these experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong passion of business and finance. After a short stint in Kankakee, IL, as a bank officer, he moved with his family to Long Island, NY where he began his career with Armor Elevator Company. From there, Armor moved Bob and his family to Louisville, KY where he assumed the position of CFO. After 17 years with Armor, who had been acquired by the Kone Corporation, Bob embarked on his next career venture purchasing Dykes Restaurant Supply in 1988 (from Cliff and Frank Dykes) in Huntsville, AL. He was a hands-on, creative businessman who was highly respected by his employees and in his community. As CEO/Owner of Dykes, he successfully grew the company in Huntsville and Nashville, TN. He continued the expansion of the business by opening an additional office in Louisville, KY. Bob held a deep, customer-forward mindset that was ingrained in the DNA of Dykes Foodservice Solutions, Inc. This mindset was shared by his work family, which he loved dearly. Over the past few years Bob handed the reigns of the company over to his son, Brock, and business partner, Fran Spinelli, to continue his legacy.Above all, his greatest passion was his family and his love of horses and planes (lifelong hobbies he shared with his brothers Ron and Vic, Jr.). He enjoyed flying his plane when his children were small for weekend outings. He owned multiple horses he rode recreationally, while also venturing into quarter horse racing across multiple states. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren on his farm riding horses and Go-carts. He was "Poppy" to his loving grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Brock L. Bodart (Alissa); his brothers, Ronald Bodart (Kathy) and Victor Bodart (Lynn); his son-in-law, Erik Furlan; his grandchildren, Justin Wagner (Emily), Andrew Wagner, Rhodes Bodart, Rollins Bodart, and Ella Grace Dillard; his great-grandchildren, Shepard and Copeland Wagner; along with his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Angela Bodart Furlan.A "Celebration of Life" is being planned on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home at 2320 Bob Wallace Ave SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. with a service at 5 p.m.Additionally, a small cemetery service will be held in Bob's hometown of Westville, IL with the date, time, and location to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to LUNGevity, P.O. Herb is survived by his partner of 28 years, Ila Hillard, his son Greg (Michele) Wiese, daughter Julie (Vernon) Lorenz, grandchildren Sarah Lorenz (Andre Roy), Christian Lorenz (Josieanne Griffin), Samantha Wiese, sister-in-law Paula Mauck, and his bonus family, Kimberly (Tony) Graham, Nicole Gouty (Ken Thrasher), Ila's 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, his brother Howard Wiese, nephews Donnie Wiese, Matt Wiese, Doug Wiese, cousins Bob (Terry) Wiese, Sharon Wiese and many special friends. After finishing up at Schlarman High School, Herb embarked on an incredible life. As a young teenager, Herb was already a professional musician. Spice, Herb's band, played for thousands of eager fans throughout the years. Spice played in every bar and venue in Illinois/Indiana for 25 years. Following their "opening gigs" for Wayne Newton, Glen Campbell, Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson, the band returned home to finish out their final days of playing. Of course, those "opening gigs" were just figments of Herb's imagination, but the band really did make his life worthwhile. Herb gives special kudos to his keyboard player and best friend, Harlan "Punky" Ice. They made great music together even after the band stopped playing. Herb was President/Owner of Herb Wiese Distributing Co until his retirement on October 10, 1988. Herb bought the company from his mentor and dear friend, Glen Altman, in 1977 just as Miller Lite was catching fire. Herb rode that wave of consumer enthusiasm until he retired. When Herb bought the distributorship, "his" beer was on tap in only a handful of taverns/restaurants. When Herb retired, Miller Lite was served in all 168 draft beer accounts in Vermilion County. That is a testament to Herb's work ethic, vision, and genius. Herb gave his business all he had so his retirement at 46 was sweet. In the end, all that need be said is Herb was a good and decent man. He was loved deeply by his partner, Ila, his family and his bonus family. He has earned his rest and rest well he will. We are thankful we shared with him the same short moment that is life. A service to celebrate the life of Herb Wiese will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Private Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The world has grown a little dimmer with the passing of Leslie (Levy) O'Connor on March 10th, 2024 at her home in Collinsville, Illinois. Leslie departed this earth surrounded by the endless love of her beloved children at her bedside. She was 66 years old.Born on October 26th, 1957 in Danville, Illinois, Leslie was the cherished only child of Paul and Joan (Ellsberry) Levy. She spent her childhood roaming the open fields and tending to the baby lambs on her mother's family farm - a working crop farm that remains a treasured legacy today. Her father, a renowned retailer, owned the iconic Deutsch Uptown store on Vermilion Street, transforming it into the premier destination for women's haute couture and designer fashions. After his untimely passing in 1974, Leslie's mother Joan took the reins, wisely employing her daughter as the store's bookkeeper, foreshadowing Leslie's future in the family business. However, it was the stage that first captured Leslie's vibrant spirit. At Danville High School, she landed the leading role of the sultry yet strong-willed "Hot Lips Houlihan" in the school's production of MASH, garnering resounding acclaim for her performance. This spark was fanned into a roaring blaze at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia, where Leslie's tour-de-force portrayal of Annie Sullivan in "The Miracle Worker" was hailed as outstanding. In April 1985, Leslie said "I do" to her beloved James Michael O'Connor. Though their journey briefly took them to Denver, Colorado, the couple returned to Leslie's roots in 1987 to welcome their son, Paul Maxwell "Max" O'Connor. Soon after, they planted new roots in Collinsville, Illinois, expanding their family with the arrival of daughter Gail Elizabeth "Betsy" O'Connor in 1989.Leslie's loving light will forevermore shine in the hearts of her husband Mike O'Connor; children Max (Christina) O'Connor and Betsy (Brett Rowland); grandchildren Brian and Joan O'Connor; and the countless lifelong friends who bore witness to her warmth, wit, and zest for life.A Celebration of Leslie's Life will be held on March 16th, 2024 at 12pm at Turtle Run Golf Club, 332 E. Liberty Lane, Danville, IL., where the echoes of her laughter and memories of her generous spirit will undoubtedly linger in the air. Though she has departed the stage, the show of her remarkable life will forever run in the minds of all who were fortunate enough to bask in her radiance.Memorial contributions may be given to the Metro East Humane Society.
