Since I have a lot of birds and trees by my patio I thought a Bird Seed Wreath would make a nice decoration and treat for the birds.

After I made it, I have to admit I liked it so much I didn’t want the birds to have it!! So I bought them a bird feeder and hung the wreath on my patio away from the birds. It’s been a year now and it’s still on my patio!

See how I turned a chandelier into a bird feeder here.

8 cups birdseed
1 1/2 cup boiling water
6 of the 1/4 packets of Gelatin
1/2 cup corn syrup
8 tablespoons cold water

  • Combine the gelatin with the 8 tablespoons of cold water, stir until dissolved, then add to the boiling water. Mix well. Add in the birdseed and corn syrup. Mix thoroughly. Pour mixture into a bundt pan that has been greased with Pam or oil to prevent sticking, pat the top of the seeds to make sure it is packed in good. You can also line the bundt pan with foil. Place in the refrigerator overnight.
  • After it has set overnight turn the bundt pan upside down and “shake” it out. I had to go around the edges with a knife to loosen it up before it came out.
  • Tie a ribbon for hanging.

This is lovely. When I was little I used to make something similar but it always ended up an a lumpy shape and was just hung up with a piece of garden string! I'll have to try this grown up version in the autumn. Thanks for sharing.
