Prime Minister Anthony Albanese responded Tuesday by describing Musk as an “arrogant billionaire.”X announced it would fight in court Australian orders to take down posts relating to a knife attack on a bishop as a service was being streamed online on April 15. The material was geoblocked from Australia but remained available elsewhere. But the regulator that made the orders successfully applied Monday to the Federal Court for a temporary global ban on sharing the video.

Chicago Bears schedule a Wednesday announcement on new stadium near lakefront

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bears have scheduled a Wednesday news conference to announce plans for “a state-of-the-art, publicly owned enclosed stadium” on the city’s Museum Campus near Lake Michigan. The announcement Monday said the plans also call for additional green and open space with access to the lakefront. The team said last month it was prepared to provide more than $2 billion in funding toward a publicly owned stadium in the city. That statement signaled a shift in focus away from building a new home in the suburbs. Soldier Field has been the Bears’ home since 1971. The team’s lease there runs through 2033.

PEN America calls off awards ceremony amid criticism over its response to Israel-Hamas war

NEW YORK (AP) — Facing widespread unhappiness over its response to the Israel-Hamas war, the writers’ group PEN America has called off its annual awards ceremony. Dozens of nominees had dropped out of the event, which was to have taken place in New York next week. PEN hands out hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes each year, including $75,000 for the PEN/Jean Stein Award for best book. Authors affiliated with PEN have repeatedly denounced the organization for allegedly favoring Israel and downplaying atrocities against Palestinian writers and journalists. PEN has called for a ceasefire and helped set up a $100,000 emergency fund for Palestinian writers.

Jets trade quarterback Zach Wilson to the Broncos, AP source says

A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press the New YorkJetshave traded quarterback Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos. TheJetsare sending Wilson and a seventh-round pick in this week’s draft to the Broncos for a sixth-rounder, the person said. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the teams haven’t announced the deal. NFL Network first reported the trade. TheJetsare parting ways with Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft, after just three disappointing seasons. New York is also expected to pay a portion of Wilson’s $5.5 million salary for this season.

Sabres hire Lindy Ruff as coach. He guided Buffalo to the playoffs in 2011

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Lindy Ruff is returning to Buffalo for a second stint as coach of the Sabres. General manager Kevyn Adams announced the hiring Monday. Ruff coached the Sabres from 1997-2013 and was the last person to guide them to the playoffs. Buffalo fired Don Granato after missing the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season with him in charge. The Sabres haven’t made the playoffs since 2011, the longest drought in the league. Ruff coached the New Jersey Devils the past three seasons before being fired in March.

Diver pinned under water by an alligator figured he had choice: Lose his arm or lose his life

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) — Out of air and pinned by an alligator to the bottom of the Cooper River in South Carolina, Will Georgitis decided his only chance to survive might be to lose his arm. Georgitis told The Post and Courier of Charleston he put his feet on the gator and pushed as hard as he could. He says he somehow ripped his arm out of the alligator's jaws instead of off. Georgitis was attacked April 15 as he surfaced. He says he has seen gators before in the 30 or 40 times he has dived at the spot, but never had one come after him. Georgitis suffered a broken arm and has tons of staples from the wounds.

An adored ostrich at a Kansas zoo has died after swallowing a staff member's keys

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A beloved zoo ostrich named Karen has died after swallowing a staff member's keys. The Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center announced the bird's death in a social media post on Friday. The zoo said the ostrich had reached past her exhibit's fence and grabbed the swallowed an employee's keys. Zoo staff consulted with experts nationwide for help but ultimately euthanized the adored ostrich. Karen had been at the zoo since March 2023. The zoo said it undertook an investigation and “is taking appropriate actions regarding the team member involved.” The zoo also says it will review and enhance its safety protocols for its animals.

4 Germans caught marking Hitler's birthday outside Nazi dictator's birthplace in Austria

BERLIN (AP) — Police say four Germans were caught laying white roses in memory of Adolf Hitler at the house where the Nazi dictator was born in western Austria on the anniversary of his birth, and one gave a Hitler salute as they posed for photos. Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, in Braunau am Inn. Work started last year on turning the building into a police station — a project meant to make it unattractive as a pilgrimage site for people who glorify Hitler. Police said they were reporting all four Germans to prosecutors on suspicion of violating the Austrian law that bans the symbols of Nazism.

Mary J. Blige, Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest and Foreigner get into Rock Hall

NEW YORK (AP) — Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang and Ozzy Osbourne have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The class of 2024 also will include folk-rockers Dave Matthews Band and singer-guitarist Peter Frampton. Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton earned the Musical Influence Award, while the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield will get the Musical Excellence Award. Pioneering music executive Suzanne de Passe won the Ahmet Ertegun Award. The induction ceremony will be held Oct. 19 in Cleveland.

European Space Agency adds 5 new astronauts in only fourth class since 1978. Over 20,000 applied

COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — The European Space Agency has added five new members to its astronaut corps. They graduated Monday during a ceremony in Cologne, Germany, after completing a year of training. That brings the space agency’s astronaut roster up to 11. The new astronauts are from France, Belgium, Britain, Switzerland and Spain. An Australian has also joined them as part of an agreement. The newcomers are now eligible for trips to the International Space Station. More than 20,000 people applied for the five slots.
